What is Mobile Number Portability?
There is no need to change your mobile number while changing Mobile Phone Service Operators. As an example, if you have a Vodafone mobile number then you could choose Airtel Connection without changing your number; it means your old phone number will remain unchanged but tariff plan, network services will changed to another mobile service provider.
Starting date of MNP (Mobile Number Portability Service) in India is 20th January 2011. Details of Mobile Number Portability as follows:
• The Price / Charge / Cost for Mobile Number Portability service in India is up to Rs.19/- only.
• Maximum Porting time 7 working days except Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and North-East (15-Working days) – time require for Mobile number portability service while changing from one operator to another.
Process of using Mobile Number Portability:
1. Contact your new mobile service provider and collect Customer Acquisition Form (CAF) along with Porting Form.
2. To get the Unit Porting Code; you should send a sms ‘PORT {space} Mobile Number’ to 1900.
3. Submit CAF Forms and Porting Form with required documentation.
4. If you are a Post Paid Customer then submit CAF + Porting Form and Last payment receipt.
5. Collect new SIM Card from NEW Mobile Service Provider.
6. Your new mobile service provider will inform you’re the porting time and date after successful mobile number portability process.
7. After the acknowledgment; change to Old SIM from the New Mobile service provider’s SIM.
Rules & Restrictions of Mobile Number Portability:
1. One can’t use Mobile Number Portability process within the 90-days from the Date of New Connection taken and from the last Porting Date.
2. Mobile Number Portability will be done only in local networks as of now.
